The History of Kolcraft^®

Kolcraft started in Chicago in 1946 when Leo Koltun made playpen pads out of cotton batting and oilcloth covers for post World War II babies. In 1949, he found himself with surplus padding and used his ingenuity to invent the all-around crib and playard bumper pad.

A period of rapid growth followed as the company expanded into manufacturing other types of pads including Crib Mattresses in 1951. Since that time, Kolcraft has become America's #1 Crib Mattress manufacturer.
In 1979, Kolcraft began making plastic products with the introduction of the innovative Carri-Cradle; the first

combination plastic infant carrier and rocker with a carrying handle. Kolcraft continued its expansion into the manufacture and distribution of other product categories including: Playards, High Chairs, Walkers, and Strollers. By 1994, Kolcraft became one of the nations leading suppliers of strollers.
In the late 1990's, Kolcraft continued to grow by entering into additional new categories with quality, innovative childrens products. These new areas included Bassinets, Bouncers, Swings, and Juvenile Furniture.

Kolcraft continues to be the #1 Crib Mattress manufacturer and is now the market leader in bassinets. In addition to the Kolcraft Brand, we have now also partnered with recognizable brand names such as Sealy®, Carter's® and Jeep®, leaders in their industries, to produce a variety of childrens products.
