11 Best Things To Do For Your Newborn
We had a great time getting to know the people at New Parent while at the 2011 ABC Show Expo. We love their site for all of the great content and resources to help mom, dad, and the entire family. One article that caught our attention was the 11 Best things To Do For Your Newborn. We are sharing some of their list here, but make sure to visit their site and get insight into the rest.
- Establish a sleep routine
- Practice good hygiene
- Hold Baby as Much as Possible
- Read, Talk, and Sing
Do you have any of your own tips to share?
I would add “create a bank account for them AND tell people you did.” There’s no better time to start saving for the little one, plus you can tell people rather than buying some gift nobody needs, they can make a deposit to the account!

<I totally recommand the moby wrap!! best thing EVER to sooth your baby!
My husband and I actually got it for one of our friends that had a coliqui baby….it does WONDERS!!
I’m in complete agreement with the commenter above that said to start a bank account and let people know. Things are only going to get more expensive as kids born now get older so it’s a great thing to do. Savings bonds bought for them are always good too.
Thanks for the comments!
I second the lead paint point. There are super simple test strips you can buy at any hardware store. We found lead paint in the rental we were living in when my oldest was born (and with a little deep conversation with our landlady, we were able to have it taken care of free of charge). But if we hadn’t checked, we wouldn’t have known it was an issue!
As for practicing hygiene, an easy way to avoid passing viruses to baby is to avoid playing “pass the baby”. Baby-wear and explain that for now, little one doesn’t need to be held by everyone because it’s cold & flu season and you want little one to stay healthy!
Another way to baby-safe the house is to avoid products laden with chemical in the first place. There are plenty of effective safe products out there, if baby is somehow able to surpass all your babyproofing methods, products can’t hurt baby. Read labels or find recipes for cleaning products and make your own. Vinegar is a HUGE part of our home cleaning regimen.
Great article. We will be bringing home our first little one soon and I’m trying to absorb as much information as possible.
Thanks!
