During our Mom Mondays we love to introduce you to moms who inspire us. We also like to introduce you to people who make the job of parenting a little easier and we are happy to give you a very timely interview. While at the ABC show we were lucky enough to meet up with Katie from Crane Humidifiers. This lady knows her stuff! She showed us their amazing humidifiers that pediatricians recommend. Why is having a humidifier so important for your child?
Adding moisture to a room moistens nasal passages, soothes dry coughs, and helps with nose bleeds, chapped lips and dry skin. Great for helping relieve cold and flu symptoms too so you and your child can sleep peacefully at night!
Are there different kinds of humidifiers?
Yes, generally three types:
- Cool mist
- Warm mist
- Evaporative
All three designs put moisture into the air. Pediatricians recommend cool mist over warm mist, because warm mist boils the water and produces a steam. Doctors are concerned about possible burning from the steam.
What are some of the success stories you have heard from parents who started to use humidifiers?
I have heard that our whimsical designs put a smile on a child’s face. When you child is sick and miserable anything that will make them smile is a relief to a parent.
Do you have a favorite design of your humidifiers?

What’s a Ramon Wow? It’s where Ramon goes out of his way to WOW his customers. He got us set up for a pizza party that was fit for a king.

Thanksgiving Craft for Kids & Contest
Kolcraft's Hand Turkey Remix with M & M's
We all remember the “hand turkey” that we made in school. This is a simple craft that is great to decorate your house with for Thanksgiving and we have given it a “new look” and have dubbed it the Hand Turkey Remix – gobble gobble.
All your child has to do is trace his hand on a piece of paper and color it in. (Smaller children may need you to trace their hands for them.)
- The thumb becomes the turkey’s head.
- Cut out a little yellow triangle for the turkey’s beak and glue it to the thumb.
- Add a little dot on the thumb for turkey’s eye
- Cut out little yellow feet and glue to the bottom of turkey (what is the bottom of the palm of the hand)
- The fun comes in when you decorate the turkey feathers (the other fingers) with creative texture. You can make texture with a variety of things around your house.

Unlock Your Child’s Imagination
Wally & I are really excited about today’s Fun Friday because we get to share with you our adventure to unlocking imagination. Yesterday we had the opportunity to go to the new Disney Imagination Center® in downtown Chicago. The Imagination Center is very different from the “regular” Disney stores you have been to. As a matter of fact, it integrates experiences that you could have in Disney World® or Disneyland®.
The Disney Imagination Center is built around unlocking your imagination. Wally & I loved this aspect of the center because as we have learned from studies, developing your child’s imagination is key to many other developmental milestones. (Wally was very excited about it because his baby activity center helps your baby with play and imagination at a very young age.) There are many different ways to unlock your imagination and the Disney Imagination Center excels at it.
We arrived in time for the opening ceremony. The Disney Imagination Center doesn’t just open their doors, they open imagination from the very start of the day. The opening ceremony is a lot of fun. We don’t want to ruin the surprise of all that happens in the ceremony, but there is A LOT of participation from the crowd.

Wally and I then walked down the pixie dust trail left by Tinker Bell. We stopped at the princess castle where we got to pick which princess we wanted to meet. We picked Cinderella and received her special wand. Once we went through the castle and waved the wand before the magic mirror, Cinderella appeared and told us her story!

Wally and I then spent some time coloring in the Imagination Center theater where we also watched some of our favorite Disney movies. You get to pick from a wide variety of movies and see on the mini-screen the countdown to when your selected movie will play.

In the Imagination Center theater, kids who are young and old have the opportunity to learn to draw with Woody, attend story hour, and be part of all sorts of activities that unleash their imaginations.

The cast members were so helpful and fun. When I asked Miguel, who was a team leader, what was their biggest hope for people who visit the Disney Imagination Center he responded, “We want kids of all ages to experience magic for at least 30 minutes.” From the pixie trail to the magical trees that have hidden Mickey Mouses and more, it truly was a magical experience.
We also loved how the Disney experience is designed to customize a guest’s experiences and make every visit special, from the interactive displays and changing lights and media clips shown on the LED light trees to the events and so much more. (We also applaud Disney for being socially conscious & using energy saving lights. Applaud, Applaud)
Before we left, the cast put up a special message in the theater. (They asked who my favorite character was & I told them Alice.)

Wally and I celebrated my unbirthday Disney style with song and fireworks in the trees!
We give the Disney Imagination Center 10 stars. There are a lot of these new Disney stores popping up around the country -just check out the Disney website for the one nearest you!

New Events Happening At Kolcraft
Our blog post is a little late today because Kolcraft was out and about in Chicago with Wally. We know, we know, we keep talking about Wally Wonderbug. We just can’t help it because he is so cute!
Our day started by meeting Meri-Margaret from the National Wildlife Federation. What an amazing woman! If you missed our interview with her, you can read it here. The National Wildlife Association has some AMAZING events coming up which has Kolcraft VERY excited. (Stay tuned for more on that at a later date.) Wally and Meri-Margaret hit it off and are BFF’s now. We captured their meeting on camera, but since Wally hasn’t had his official debut we had to protect his identity.

Wally and I then took a stroll over to the Disney Imagination Center. It was an amazing morning. Wally and Jiminy Cricket were inseparable. (Must be a bug thing.) Wally loved that he could spend time coloring. He was bashful around the princesses, but you can see he picked their page to color.

Getting Outdoors To Prevent Breast Cancer & Win Baby Gear
There is a lot of pink in stores and across city skylines reminding us that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With a reported 40,000 women dying from breast cancer every year, we all need these reminders to take steps to prevent breast-cancer, to raise awareness for it and to do what we can to end breast cancer.
One thing that researchers have found helps prevent breast cancer (and many other ailments for that matter!) is to stay active and get plenty of exercise. These last few weeks we have been talking about the importance of our children playing outdoors in order to stay healthy and the best way to keep them healthy is by setting an example. We know it’s not easy to set aside time for exercise and that’s why we love the National Wildlife Federation’s website since it has so many great ideas on how to get outdoors & get moving as a family.

Children Give a Belly Laugh a Day & a Stroller :)

When my girlfriend was pregnant with baby #6 (yes, you read that right – single births too!) her husband had a work meeting in Chicago. They thought it would be the perfect time to visit Auntie Shell so they packed up all the children and headed North. (They live in Alabama.) We received a lot of stares and “OH MY! Are those all yours?” when we went out. Besides the stares, one thing that was never lacking during their stay was laughter. At one point we were laughing over one of the children’s antics, my friend looked at me and said, “Who needs cable when you can have a belly laugh a day from your child?”
Kids do and say the funniest things. You may have seen this video circulating on YouTube which has given us some belly laughs.
It’s one of those videos of a kid just being a kid, but you can’t help but smile.
