5 Safe Sleeping Tips for Baby Safety Month
September is Baby Safety Month and the JPMA is making sure parents and caregivers are educated on the importance of safety especially when it comes to our most precious gifts – our children.
One place that baby spends a lot of her time is in bed. These 5 safe sleeping tips can help give baby a safe sleeping environment.
Be sure that baby’s crib mattress properly fits the crib. You can read about correct crib measurements here.
- Keep baby’s crib free of blankets, toys and bumpers.
- Make sure your baby’s crib mattress is firm.
- Keep baby away from cigarette smoke. There are many devastating effects of smoke for baby including SIDS.
- Make sure baby is not wearing too many clothes or sleeping in a hot room which will cause baby to overheat.
Double check your baby’s sleeping space to make sure she is safe and secure so both you and baby can have peaceful sleep.
Kolcraft Moms Take on Chicago

Kolcraft was abuzz with excitement to welcome 4 Kolcraft Mom ambassadors to our corporate office in Chicago. We had talked with these moms via blog, social media and on the phone, but never met in person. Their time in Chicago was a time for us to get to know them & them to get to know us.
We started the Kolcraft Mom Fest with spa treatments at the Red Door Spa. We know moms don’t get much time to themselves, so we wanted to pamper them after their travel to the Windy City. That night we dined Chicago style at the locals’ favorite pizza spots – Lou Malnati’s. Then if was off to see some fireworks on Navy Pier and walk the Mag Mile before drifting to dreamland at The Drake.
The next day came bright and early with breakfast at Kolcraft corporate offices. Here the moms got to meet 3 generations of Koltuns – Sandy Koltun, CEO (son of the founder of Kolcraft), Tom Koltun, President, and Anita Koltun, social media intern. They also toured the offices and saw our test labs. The day was spent showing them products in various stages of concept and development. It was exciting to see their reaction to “first looks” at products and to get their feedback. We ended the day with a limo tour of Chicago sites.
Friday was the end of our time with our Kolcraft Moms. We met them for breakfast and were serenaded by A Nation of Mom’s son who played the violin like a little Itzhak Perlman. It was hard to say goodbye, but we are grateful for the time we had with them.

Kolcraft Voluntary Recall of Contours LT Tandem Stroller
Contours Tandem LT stroller
Today Kolcraft announced a voluntary recall in cooperation with the CPSC. Although we have made many strollers with the name Contours only the Contours LT Tandem Stroller with model number ZT012 is part of this recall. You can find your model number on a paper label found on the top, rear edge of your stroller seat pad or on a sticker on the rear leg of your stroller frame.
The front wheel assembly can break, posing a fall hazard to the child in the stroller. In addition, for strollers manufactured in January and February 2012, the nuts that hold the stroller’s basket support screws in place can detach. Detached nuts can pose a choking hazard to young children. There have been no injuries reported.
If you have one of these models, please call (800)-453-7673 Monday-Thursday from 8 AM -6:45 PM and Friday 8 AM to 3:30 PM EST to order a free repair kit.

Kolcraft Helping Kids In Distressed Situations
Strollers given to children in need through KIDS
For several years Kolcraft has partnered with K.I.D.S. – a mission based company who quite simply give caring responses through time & donations to children in the crisis of poverty. K.I.D.S. brings hope and self-esteem to children & families in need in the USA & throughout the world by providing new clothes, shoes, toys furniture, book and juvenile products. Over the past 25 years, K.I.D.S. has provided more than 65 million underprivileged and disaster-struck children with nearly $1 BILLION of new products.
Tom Koltun, Kolcraft’s president, along with Kolcraft and our Kolcraft Mom ambassadors have been able to donate funds and products to K.I.D.S throughout the years, but we don’t always know the personal stories of those who receive the products. We were thrilled to hear that the 1,658 Jeep strollers we donated valued at over $66,000 were delivered to kids in Sri Lanka. Many of the strollers were given to Development Centers where children and infants with special needs live.
Mas. Dulitha Methsara captured our hearts (2nd child from left in photo above). He was abandoned in a hospital by his birth mom. He has cerebral palsy and unable to walk or talk. He does respond when his name is called and lets the staff know what food he enjoys. 
He was so happy to receive a new Jeep stroller which will allow him to attend different events and get around more.
Kolcraft believes that all of us can “do our part” to help children in need. We are proud to partner with K.I.D.S. and give back to those who desperately need the basics for caring for their children. Two Kolcraft Mom/Dad blogs – Being MVP and Chunky and Monkey, MD – are hosting silent auctions for Contours Tandem strollers. The proceeds will go to help K.I.D.S. and you will have a great Contours tandem stroller!
