Easy Book Craft for Kids

We continue Dr. Seuss’ birthday celebration with an easy and fun make your own book activity you can do with your child!

What you need:

  1. Blank 8.5 x 11 paper
  2. Crayons, markers or non-toxic paint
  3. Felt
  4. Hole Punch
  5. String
  6. Scissors (adult use only)

What to do:

  1. Cut sheets of paper in half.
  2. Have your child draw pictures, print alphabet letters, write a story with you, etc.
  3. Punch a hole at the top side & bottom side of the felt and the the paper. If you prefer to just use a long piece of string to bind the book together like we did in the photo, you can do that as well.
  4. String the pages together using the felt as the book cover.

Enjoy your child’s very first published book! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love this idea!! My 7-yr-old asked me over the weekend (with a really impressive pitch and presentation) if she could start a blog. I’m still stewing on it, but for now… I may just help her create her own book. Plus it gives me a little keepsake to hold onto.

My son loves making books, and helps with his writing. I will have to work on this one with him.

This is a great idea! I’m going to show my daughter how to make one. She is just starting to write, and loves to draw, so i think she’ll really like this!

I never thought of using felt for a cover. Very clever and what a great way to make a first book. Thanks for the idea.
