Easy Children’s Summer Recipes

June 11, 2010 Cooking, Recipes 8 Comments

Summertime brings outdoor fun and picnics. One easy recipe for children is ants on a log. We love this because it’s healthy, easy and fun!

What you will need:

  • celery sticks
  • peanut butter (we are fans of natural peanut butter)
  • raisins

Directions:

  1. Wash the celery and have an adult cut it into pieces (about 5 inches long).
  2. Spread peanut butter across the u-shaped part of celery.
  3. Press raisins into peanut butter. We think 3 is a good amount.

You can also use cream cheese instead of peanut butter and nuts instead of raisins if you want variety.

What fun recipes do you like to make with your children?

    Andrea,
Ants on a log are fun aren’t they? My mom made them for us but I didn’t like raisins so she made mine w/o ants. :)

My son loves to help out in the kitchen. When he was four he went to a week long summer camp that taught the kids how to make great kid friendly snacks, Ants on a Log was one. they also learned no-bake cookies, quesadillas, and a number of others. Now at 6 he has turned into quite the little kitchen helper. This summer he is excited because he is going to enter his no-bake cookies into the county fair.

    Trina,
That is so fun! Let us know how his no-bake cookies turn out at the county fair. We have no doubt he is a winner! We already are thinking we will see him on Top Chef!
