Go on A Bird Picnic with Your Kids
We love that summer is the perfect time for picnics, skipping stones, going on hikes and so many other opportunities to connect with your children through nature. Even if you can’t get out to a national park, you can have nature fun in your own backyard with a Bird Picnic! It’s easy to do! Our friends at the National Wildlife Federation have put together all that you need for fun bird themed recipes and activities for your Bird Picnic.
Enjoy!

This is great! My kids LOVE bird watching!
my 3yr old daughter loves to watch the birds.
unfortunately, she also thinks they will come sit on her hand like they do in Snow white!
Jamie,
That’s awesome. We hope they have fun on their bird picnic!
Stephanie,
Oh that is so cute. Maybe at a petting zoo or pet shop, she can hold one!
I think that’s great to teach your children about nature and letting them enjoy the outdoors! Sounds wonderful! I like to do outdoor activities with my grandchildren all the time, espcially walking on nature trails!
Love this! My 2 yr old loves birds.
I take my children and grandchildren on bird watching hikes. We find the birds, and try to take pictures of them, and we also find them in our bird manual, so we can identify what they are. The kids love it!
I have always wanted to go on a birth watching hike – can’t wait to take my wife and son!
What a great idea! I love the bug cookies they suggest! We will definitely have to try this.

Kelly,
This will be perfect for your bird loving 2 yr old
Janet,
You are giving your grandchild the gift of nature & that is priceless!
We usually go to the local park for picnics, it is less than 2 miles away and there is a lake the kiddo fishes, and we just relax. I think picnics are a great way to get the kiddos out and about.
Great Idea! This reminded me that a friend last year told of a spot nearby us where the birds will eat from your hands if the kids stand still enough…just may do that this weekend!
Erinn,
That sounds WONDERFUL! We want to go there. :0)
Jammie,
That is so wonderful to be so close to a park. Good for you for giving your child the gift of nature!
Love this!
Thanks Tiffany!
Part of my schooling with my mother when I was younger involved bird flashcards to recognize the different types…this would have been so much fun in conjunction with that!
