Swaddling is an ancient tradition used in many cultures to calm babies and help them sleep. In many ways swaddling mimics the cozy comfort of the womb and inhibits a baby’s startle reflex which helps baby have uninterrupted sleep.

There are many books on swaddling, but we really liked the website Just the Facts Baby for a quick go-to guide on how to swaddle.

Have your swaddled your baby? How did your baby respond?

I swaddled my baby and it definitley worked. Even better when we used an actual swaddler where you stick the baby in the pocket and wrap the flaps tight.

I’m intrigued by all of the new swaddling systems available. I’m eager to try them out.

  3. I worked in the NICU as a nurse for over 7 years and swaddling babies was one of the most important things we could do to help them feel comfort. After I had my kids I swaddled both of them and they LOVED it!

We swaddled my son for about the first 8 weeks. It worked well for us, but he usually came unwrapped. For my next baby I’m going to try the Miracle Blanket. I’ve heard great things about it. We mostly used the swaddle at night. I know some babies who have wanted to be swaddled all day long, but I’ve heard that swaddling too much can cause developmental delays and inhibit proper development. I’d like to find out more information on that.
