Kolcraft Recipe Winner: French Toast Casserole
For our Holiday Recipe Box contest we asked you to submit your favorite holiday recipes that you share with your family. The winner of this giveaway was Danielle, who entered her delicious French Toast Casserole with us! Along with her prize, we told her that we would try the recipe for ourselves and share it on our blog. So, here is our winning recipe!
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 Tbsp. dark corn syrup
- 2/3 C. packed dark brown sugar
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 C. milk (we used skim)
- 1 Tsp. cinnamon
- 1 Tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 Tsp. salt
- 1 loaf of day-old french bread
- 9×13 greased pan
- 1 C. heavy whipping cream (for whipped cream topping, optional)
Step one: In a small sauce pan melt the butter, corn syrup and brown sugar together over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved completely and the mixture is bubbly.
After this is finished, pour the mixture evenly into the pan. Make sure that the pan is well greased, since this mixture can be very sticky. Once this has been done set the pan aside.
Step two: Cut the loaf of bread into 1-2 inch slices.
Step three: In a bowl combine the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla and salt. Soak each slice of bread in the mixture like you would for regular french toast and place in a single layer on top of the brown sugar sauce in the pan. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Step four: In the morning bake the toast for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. While it is in the oven, you can whip together the cream and fold in some sugar. We omitted this step to cut down on sugar, but it would be delicious as a dollop on the finished meal!
Step five: Serve and enjoy!
Try this recipe out for yourself! It would be the perfect breakfast to make for a chilly weekend at home with your family. If you have any other recipes you would like to share we would love to try them!
