Kolcraft Voluntarily Recalls Certain Jeep Liberty Branded Strollers

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+Pin on Pinterest

Today Kolcraft announced a voluntary recall in cooperation with the CPSC. The recall includes certain Jeep Liberty branded strollers. The only affected models are JL031, JL032, JL034, JL035 or JL036 manufactured between June 2010 and September 2011.  The model number and date of manufacture are printed on a white tag on the rear upper center of each seat-back pad.

The inner tube of the tire on the stroller can rupture causing the wheel rim to fracture, posing a risk of bodily injury and property damage.

If you have one of these models, please call (800)-453-7673 Monday-Friday 8 AM to 5:00 PM EST to order a free repair kit. You can learn more information about this recall, or order your repair kit here.

The Kolcraft family remains committed to making the best products for your children and we apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

I was just commenting that I have an april 2010 liberty addition and the tube actually blew up in my husband face causing im to lose vision for several minutes. At the time I thought nothing about it and never reported it I just thought crap happens and I guess life goes on. It never ruptured the wheel frame itself but ever since we bought a new tube to put in the wheel itself the stroller has never been the same. No I have no documentation pictures or doctor bills but this really did happen.

thanks for sharing this important information!

I also have this stroller. From the time I got it the back right tire never stays aired up. I have just been walking around with a air pump in the stroller and keep pumping up the tire. I just thought I needed a new tube but never got around to checking into it. The company will send us new parts from what I understand. I will call on Monday. I do think its a little crazy that they want us to change out the wheels ourselves…..what if something happens while we are changing them out.?????

When can we expect to see these back in stores? I called Kolcraft and was told that they’re still being sold, but that’s not the case. I’ve checked Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, Babies R Us, Burlington Coat Factory, Overstock and they’ve all taken them down for the time being. I’ve been wanting to purchase this stroller for some time so any idea of when I’ll be able to would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I’ve got this stroller. I used it one time, two of the tubes exploded while on a walk with my son. But apparently the stroller I have isn’t one that’s been recalled because of the stupid triangle on the wheel.

  9. Betsey Flowers June 25, 2013 at 10:27 am #

I am having a hard time finding the model # on my stroller. I have looked on the tag attached to the back to the stroller, but I haven’t been able to find the number. Please help me determine where I can find this number. Thanks

I have this stroller for my daughter and my brother recently filled the tires with air it exploded on our walk back home. Replacement part or not I don’t ever want to put my baby in this stroller I expected much more from this brand.

I have this jeep stroller. Have not used it for the last 6 months due to the wheel that blew out. The other wheel has a bulge like a bubble in it. Honestly I am now scared to blow up the tire.

  13. Lesli July 3, 2013 at 2:44 pm #

Our tire rim did explode. No injuries thank goodness. I contacted customer service only to find out it would cost us around 50 bucks with shipping to replace the tire about 6 months ago. So sick of this stroller. Several tire issues. Stroller can not be trusted to have Air in tires when you need it.

  14. Katrina July 7, 2013 at 1:48 pm #

My stroller was manufactured in 2012 and had two tire blow-outs!! Front and back with in days apart. The blog says that strollers manufactured between 2010-2011 are affected, and I disagree with this. Also, the babies r us that I purchased mine from are no longer selling them. Good thing is, customer service at kolcraft did replace both tires free of charge..THANK YOU!! Haven’t had a problem since and we use it everyday:) I hope the other one doesnt blow-out!!

  15. Leah July 10, 2013 at 1:30 pm #

We purchased the Jeep stroller in 2009 and have had tire issues continually. Right now all 3 tires are flat. It started with the front tire going flat all the time. This is my only jogger stroller I have but I have started using a Graco walker stroller until I can get my jogger fixed. I called today and it will be $54 to replace the tires…this is ridiculous!

  16. ColleenF July 10, 2013 at 2:31 pm #

Thank you for contacting us Leah. I did contact the head of Consumer Service following your blog comment. Our customer service team will be contacting you. We are sending you the replacement wheels. Thank you again for contacting us. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I have the recalled stroller, and have ordered the recalled wheels. Does the repair kit come with the nuts and washers? The nuts fell off of the front wheel while on a walk with my baby and I can’t find ones that fit. I have searched everywhere! I have not been able to use this stroller in the last 2 years. Very disappointing! Please help, where can I get the replacement nuts???????

  18. Tawnya August 17, 2013 at 10:02 pm #

I received my replacement parts. Now these tires won’t keep aired up. Really!!!! One walk and at least one tires if not more is flat before we get back home. Is anyone else having this problem?

  19. E. Turner September 8, 2013 at 7:03 pm #

I am a great-grandmother and our stroller has a right rear tire flat.
Can I repair it or does it need to be replaced? As I am on limited income, please let me know what to do. The model is JL 002-XSU
    Thank you

Thank you for commenting E. Turner. Please call our Customer Service team at 800-453-7673 and they would be the best team to assist you.

I purchased this stroller as my baby is 90 % disabled and it was working really great for her, two of the tire got flattened several time , it bulges out due to defective rims i believe, i contacted customer care and model comes under replacement model as well as tangle is there in tire but it has been purchased in 2009 dec they refused to provide the replacement kit. Now stroller is not in use due to its tire, i am thinking to buy tire and tube as i do not have any option. I recommend everyone to stop buying it as it could be dangerous.

  22. Akshay October 6, 2013 at 2:14 am #

Typo above : “Tangle is NOT there in rim”

  23. DetectiveDad October 6, 2013 at 2:52 pm #

I cannot believe a company would even think about selling a children’s item like this. We have had 2, no make it 3 blowouts while I was filling these tires for my family. (The entire valve stem blew off like a missle) I’m tired of calling and calling, having to send the same picture over and over. This problem needs to be resolved once and for all. Oh, by the way, customer service is downright rude and arrogant. I’ve been blamed for the problem!!!!

  24. ColleenF October 6, 2013 at 4:10 pm #

We apologize if you have not received our responses. Please email marketing@kolcraft.com your contact information and someone will call you tomorrow. Thank you.

  25. Rachel October 8, 2013 at 11:29 pm #

My tag says it was made in 2012 but I just ordered my free replacement kit. Can’t wait to receive the new tires so I can put the stroller back in use!!!!!

  26. ColleenF October 9, 2013 at 8:02 am #

We are glad it worked out Rachel. Please contact our customer service team if you have any questions. Customerservice@kolcraft.com or 800-453-7673.

My stroller doesn’t have the triangle on the wheel, but it’s within the manufacture date and serial number. Just ordered my replacement kit 🙂 Anyone know how long it takes for the kit to come in? Needing this stroller by Thanksgiving! Right now, the tires won’t hold air.

  28. Kaylee November 13, 2013 at 5:15 pm #

I just realized our stroller was one that was recalled only because I started searching for new tires to replace the one that’s starting to bulge out. I just ordered out replacement kit today. Can anyone tell me how long it will take to arrive? We use out stroller almost everyday and I’m afraid to use it until out replacements arrive.

  29. Kelly November 15, 2013 at 11:56 am #

I have a model purchased in 2009 and all three of my tires blew out…my stroller has been sitting because customer service said it would be 60 plus dollars… I have a feeling your recall needs to cover more strollers….I cant afford to stroll my child for $60 thats almost half a new stroller…

  31. Elizabeth February 11, 2014 at 1:01 pm #

I have asked your customer service for directions on how to fix the innertubes since apparently my stroller is not covered. I was told you do not have directions….I

  32. Sarah March 26, 2014 at 11:26 am #

I have model #JL030! Beware! It almost took an adult male finger off at the opening and closing latch! It completely mangled it! I called customer service but they have not recalled this stroller!! I am bewildered as to why! It would have definitely taken off a child’s finger!

  33. Sara March 28, 2014 at 8:01 am #

I have this exact stroller, but because mine was manufactured 2 months before the recall it’s not affected? I find that hard to believe, none of the tires stay aired up and because of the placement of the caps it’s impossible to air them up because they’re too close to the spokes. Not a fan of the stroller, I’ll be posting it on Craigslist, hopefully I can get $10 for it. I will not be purchasing this brand of products in the future.

  34. Diana July 9, 2014 at 2:09 pm #

I own a 3 wheels stroller that is almost new condition so I didn’t call about get my replace kit but I think if is not safe when it is coming from the manufacture it will not be safe after I will fix it … I’m not an expert in the business So I need replace the stroller for another model that is not or has been recall since my stroller is new because my older daughter barely used (4times) now I have a newborn. I think the manufacture should help me with that … I can’t afford to buy a new one and throw away the other. I have not money to waste …. If I bought something new at the store is because I would trust in the product …This is ridiculous

  35. Thorin July 23, 2014 at 12:18 pm #

I cannot begin to describe how frustrated I am with this stroller. I live on an island that is hard to access. I used the stroller 3 times when the wheels blew out, it took me months to get my replacement kit here, when I finally put them on, they blew out again after 1 use. I cried, I even screamed a little. I am so utterly disappointed with this situation. I want a new stroller! There was absolutely no difference in the wheels that they sent, they just happened to be new. Obviously, it was a faulty design. I plan to call customer service to see what they can do for me. My son is 1 year old now and has only been able to use his stroller 4 times. This is not right!

  36. Allison September 3, 2014 at 4:56 pm #

I have been using this stroller for almost 3 years now and love it. I had no idea about the recall on the tires until the front one blew up while walking around at the State Fair this weekend. It scared everyone including us. Ordered replacement parts fr both of ours now, and can’t wait to get them back in use again! Just wish I could also get a replacement cover for the ipod holder…that snapped off so quick years ago.

  37. Katie September 11, 2014 at 7:46 am #

I am on the second set of tires for this stroller. I called customer service today and was told they will be shipping me another set. The only problem is the tires don’t hold air and because of terrible design they are nearly impossible to fill. Good luck if you want any kind of help from customer service. I was told “most people just use a bicycle pump and have no problem”. Well that’s interesting because I consider myself to be an intelligent person, but every pump I have tried won’t even attach to the valve stem due to the fact that there is NO room for my fingers to hold the stem in place. I don’t know how many people I will have to contact but I am tired of receiving junk and expecting to be satisfied. I spent hundreds of dollars on this stroller and I need this problem to be solved.

I have ordered the replacement kit for this stroller 3 times! Each time the front tire comes with a noticeable bulge. Kolcraft will be replacing the entire stroller this time or I will BLOW UP the internet with awful reviews and videos! Shame on you people for not even calling to find out why I had to order two replacement kits within a week after the first one exploded in my tiny car causing my ears to ring (and most likely my baby’s as well) for almost two hours and risking such injury while driving in the car! These tires SHOULD NOT be pumped to the recommended 30 PSI. Even with 20 PSI there is a bulge. I can’t ever get through when I call the customer service line, but this is ridiculous so I will have to hold and use all my cell minutes I guess. Argh.

  40. Johanna June 28, 2015 at 5:31 pm #

I have this stroller, and I used it for my two babies. From the time I got it the front tire never stays aired up. Four months ago the front tube exploded; while my housband filled tires with air it exploded in his face.

I am having a hard time finding the model # on my stroller because the tag was removed, but I haven’t been able to call Costumer service because I live in Colombia. Please help me determine how I can find this number.
