Spending the Night Under the Stars with Your Family

August 12, 2011 Activities 2 Comments

As the summer months are coming to a close, it’s not too late squeeze in one last staycation this weekend! Camping in the backyard is a fun way to explore the many wonders of outer space with the whole family. So pack up your sleeping bags, tents and flashlights and head out to the backyard with your future Galileo or mini Neil Armstrong for a fun-filled night of discovery! Here are a few ideas to make your backyard adventure a night to remember:

  • Check out the Perseid Meteor Shower as it lights up the night sky Friday, August 12th and Saturday, August 13th.
  • We love NASA’s easy to use star finder to locate our favorite constellations in the sky
  • Let the kids make their very own binoculars by taping together two toilet paper rolls. Use crayons, markers and construction paper to personalize them
  • Have a picnic while watching the sun set
  • Let your imagination run wild by making up your own constellations. Draw 7 stars on a piece of paper and see what objects, animals and shapes you can come up with.
  • Happy camping!
