Tips for Preparing Your Family for Natural Disasters

October 30, 2012 Child Safety, Health, Home, Tips 9 Comments

With sadness we are watching the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. In our day to day living we aren’t always thinking about natural disasters, but when it comes to protecting our children and families it always helps to be prepared and not wait for an actual disaster to think about survival plans. Try to take a few minutes to think about how prepared your family is for a natural disaster or a fire.

Ask yourself:

  1. Do you have an evacuation plan?
  2. Does your family know the plan?
  3. Do you have supplies to help you through natural disasters?
  4. Do you have them located in an easy-to-grab location?
  5. Does everyone know where the emergency kit is stored?

We need to go over the evacuation route again with my grandson but the rest we have done. Great tips and we had purchased a generator just in case of loss of power.

October was National Preparedness Month and I’m sure there are so many people affected by Hurricane Sandy that wished they had this great information and had packed emergency kits. Thanks for helping to keep people aware of the need for such a plan.

  4. This is a very helpful post, especially with what just happened in the North East region of our country.. You never know when nature will hit us with something , we must be prepared and as parents especially we should have the responsibility to have a plan established and to never underestimate mother nature.
